Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara

Early morning pick-up in Nairobi and drive through the Great Rift Valley, with a stop at the viewpoint for photos. Arrive at your camp in time for lunch, then head out for an afternoon game drive as the plains come alive.

Best time to visit

July to October is the Great Migration season, when the herds are in the Mara and prices are at their highest. November is green season: the plains are lush, the camps are quieter, and resident rates are lower. Lions, cheetahs, leopards and elephants live in the reserve all year round.

Tour van or Land Cruiser?

The tour van has a pop-up roof for game viewing and is the most affordable option. The 4×4 Land Cruiser costs a little more but handles rough and muddy roads better, which matters in the rainy months, and gives a smoother, more comfortable ride.
